CENTER FOR CHRISTIAN EDUCATION: The Center for Christian Education (CCE) at Baylor University aspires to become the premier leadership development and research center for Christian schools (PreK-12) and Christian educators in the country. The CCE exists to equip leaders for impactful, innovative, mission-minded service promoting excellence and effectiveness in faith-based schools in the United States and around the world. The primary way the CCE will accomplish this mission is through the Copple Chair in Christian School Leadership.
Established through a gift from Lynda and Robert Copple, the Copple Chair in Christian School Leadership will be a distinguished scholar with a record of deep commitment to high-quality PreK-12 Christian schooling and the flourishing of Christian educational leaders. The inaugural holder of the Copple Chair will help lay the academic foundations of the CCE and will stand as the intellectual cornerstone to a reimagined Center for Christian Education.
SCHOOL: Baylor's School of Education, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2019, ranks among the nation’s top 20 education schools located at private universities. Professor in Educational Leadership: Copple Chair in Christian School Leadership (Tenured Full Professor)
As a tenured faculty member within the department of Educational Leadership, the Copple Chair will collaborate with the dean of the School of Education and the Center for Christian Education’s executive director to develop a research agenda focused around leadership in Christian schools, set a programmatic agenda for the CCE’s expanded activities, and develop suitable strategies by which the center can achieve high visibility and deep impact in the field as well as long-term financial sustainability.
The Copple Chair will also contribute to the national and international prominence of the CCE through publication of research that can translate into meaningful improvements in Christian schooling, from primary through post-secondary levels. He or she will host symposia and conferences at Baylor and at other select sites, on important topics relating to leader and school effectiveness. Additionally, he or she will collaborate with the dean of the School of Education and the executive director of the CCE in raising external sources of funding and maintaining high levels of support from among Baylor’s other schools and colleges for the purposes of partnering along programmatic, personnel and curricular lines.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities of this position will include:
Providing an academic anchor for the Center for Christian Education;
Maintaining a distinguished program of scholarship;
Equipping Christian school leaders;
Teaching in School of Education graduate programs;
Participating in individual or collaborative activities to secure external funding; and
Providing service to the department, university, and the profession.
QUALIFICATIONS: Consistent with the stated mission of the University to be a world-class institution dedicated to Christian principles and ideals the qualifications for the position include: An earned doctorate/terminal degree in Educational Leadership or a related discipline.
Evidence of a distinguished scholarly record including peer-reviewed publications reflecting a clear program of research, conference presentations, a history of obtaining external funding, and/or held leadership positions in professional organizations;
Commitment to working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations;
Evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level;
Evidence of prominent educational leadership experience in Christian PreK-12 school systems as a teacher, dean, principal, head of school, board member, or a combination of experiences; and,
Expertise in a key academic area that would enhance the CCE and the SOE’s national reputation.
