The Chestnut Hill School, founded in 1860 and located in Newton, Massachusetts, is a co-educational, independent school educating students from Beginners (age 3) through Grade 6. The leave replacement teacher is responsible for collaborating with the other members of the Grade 1 teaching team in planning and implementing curriculum, assessing the educational development of their students, communicating with families, and supporting the mission of the school. This position will be needed from May until June of 2019.
The Lead Teacher will:
Support the mission of the school.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
In collaboration with grade-level colleagues, plan and implement the academic program.
Participate in professional development regarding social identity, social bias, and social justice, and demonstrate inclusive practices.
Implement the Open Circle curriculum and attend to the social and emotional development of individual students and the class as a whole.
Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student progress toward learning objectives.
Differentiate teaching methods, assignments, and/or assessments to meet students’ needs.
Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and safety, and order materials to support the classroom environment.
Communicate regularly with families concerning student progress and information about academic programming and classroom events.
Plan and conduct parent-teacher conferences.
Write narrative progress reports to record and communicate students’ progress.
Support and supervise classroom interns or associate teachers, as applicable.
Manage classroom administrative tasks, including taking daily attendance and ordering materials.
Perform dismissal, lunch, and recess duties as assigned.
Plan field trips and other activities to enrich the educational experience.
Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
Participate in all-school activities, such as Admissions open houses and the Carnival, that take place outside of regular work hours.
Regularly update curriculum materials.
Engage in regular professional development opportunities to ensure continual growth and renewal.
Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the head of school or academic dean/dean of faculty
Master’s degree in education or related field
Experience working with children in this age range
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
