National Cathedral School (NCS) announces a search for a 6th-grade English teacher in its Lower School (grades 4-6) for an appointment beginning in August 2019. The successful candidate will help girls embrace a love of literature while fostering critical-thinking and analytical skills, cultivate a culturally responsive English classroom, be committed to developmentally appropriate teaching of writing, have expert knowledge of the elements of literary analysis and writing mechanics, and develop a challenging curriculum within a nurturing environment.
The Lower School day is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. Other responsibilities include daily homeroom, regular grade-level team discussions and faculty meetings, and other duties as assigned. Salary is competitive, based on experience, and the position includes a full benefits package. Qualified candidates hold at least a bachelor’s degree in English or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
