Trinity School seeks an experienced teacher to join the Upper School English faculty and to serve in the role as department chair. Strong candidates will have a solid background in classic and contemporary literature and a varied repertoire of teaching tools. The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in English/English Education and three years of teaching experience in English in grades 9-12. Experience in an independent school is preferred, but not required. This position currently involves teaching students in Grades 11 and 12, though teaching assignments are subject to change from year to year. The position begins in August 2019.
Teaching at least five sections of English or English-related elective courses with the learning objectives of:
Reading various texts with understanding and depth
Cultivating the habits and disciplines of good writing
Developing a solid foundation in grammar
Serving as the Chair of the English Department
Collaborating with other teachers in and out of the department
Providing oversight and direction for the department
Serving as an advisor to a small group of students
Fulfilling other duties as assigned throughout the day
Contributing to the broader Trinity School community by participating in extracurricular activities, possibly including the athletic program and/or club programs
Bachelor's degree in English or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred
Teaching experience preferred, especially experience at the Upper School level
Interest in and experience with co-curricular coaching and advising assignments
Interest in collaboration with instructors in other academic areas where applicable
