The Ancona School seeks a full-time head teacher for 7th-8th grade Math and Science. The teacher will provide instruction in pre-algebra, algebra, and science to children in grades 7 and 8 (multi-age classroom), as well as collaborating with the grade-level cohort, which includes the other 7th/8th Grade Advisors, Student Support Team, and multilevel (special subjects) teachers for the grade level. This teacher works as an advisor with time dedicated each morning to building community and social and emotional learning.
Essential Job Function
Prepares and delivers curriculum in pre-algebra, algebra, plate tectonics, genetics, natural selection and evolution, ecology, chemistry, and physics and manages the learning experiences for students to ensure the needs of the group and individual students are met.
Plans and facilitates Science Fair and Social Justice Data Fair.
Communicates regularly with parents, including weekly updates to the classroom web page and emails and phone calls to inform the child’s family of academic and social-emotional development.
Writes narrative-based progress reports, lead and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
Leads class in advisory program, including daily advisory meetings.
Attends camp and supervises students.
Supervises lunch and recess daily.
Partners with all adults responsible for 7th and 8th grade students’ education and well-being; collaborates with colleagues to plan and execute weekly Flex Days.
Prepares for and presents at school events, such as open houses and informational dinners.
Participates in professional activities designated by the Head of School, which may include workshops, curriculum retreats, meetings, grade reporting, planning, and other professional pursuits.
Attends all pre-announced staff meetings and professional sessions, including staff, level, committee, and evening parent meetings.
Follows the school’s policies and procedures for student evaluation and record keeping, meeting all due dates as required
Assesses the needs of the class and prepares requests for materials, furnishings, and classroom budget; updates inventory list and submits to Head of School on last day of school.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
Masters in Education or math/ science related field
Minimum of three years of teaching rooted in progressive education
Middle school or late elementary teaching experience
Experience integrating social justice themes into a science curriculum
Familiarity with Macintosh platform and Google suite of products
CPR/First Aid certification (preferred)
Pass a background check
Have the physical capacity to work with children.
Keep up with professional development – 15 hours per school year.
