Junípero Serra High School, a Catholic, college preparatory school for boys, is seeking a principal who will assume leadership in July 2019. Serra’s legacy spans more than 75 years of excellence in Catholic education, with a rich and rigorous academic curriculum, a wide range of extracurricular activities and an environment of support, compassion and mutual respect. From the classrooms to the hallways, to the performance stage and athletic venues, Serra fosters camaraderie and an authentic sense of belonging for the young men. Serra has recently developed dynamic programs in design-led innovation that partners with local universities and businesses to provide rich learning experiences in and outside the classroom. Educators also engage their students in a one to one, bring your own device technology model supported by ongoing and systematic professional development. Serra is located in San Mateo, a city with a population of 92,000 positioned between Silicon Valley and San Francisco. Students come from the greater San Mateo and San Francisco Bay area and represent a mixture of racial, ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds. The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) and is owned by the Archdiocese of San Francisco.

A faith-filled practicing Catholic committed to furthering the Catholic identity of the school.
A deep understanding of and commitment to all-boys education with the ability to articulate the school’s educational philosophy to inspire and motivate constituencies.
A strong educational leader who understands current trends in Catholic education, with proven experience in enhancing strong academics, faith formation, and professional development programs based on high standards of excellence for all students.
A willingness to work closely and comfortably with the leadership team, faculty, staff and advisory board, investing time in the people to build a true partnership for the school.
An understanding of organizational dynamics and systems to ensure strong collaboration among senior administrators. The principal must understand what constitutes an effective president-principal model.
A commitment to diversity, multiculturalism and globalism. Have the desire and skill to work with a diverse community in a meaningful and genuine manner.
The desire to be present, visible and engaged with all Serra constituents. An effective communicator with administrators, faculty, parents, student community members and the advisory board so that these groups are appropriately informed of issues and needs.
An understanding of the fundamentals of business and of running a school.
Master degree, or equivalent.
