Serves as the school and educational leader responsible for development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of a comprehensive program of educational and student services. Administers the program in accordance with board policies, statutory requirements, administrative rules and regulations, as well as agency leadership direction. Serves as an advocate for the staff, students, and school community as appropriate.
Easterseals Academy is an ISBE approved therapeutic day school that serves students with the eligibilities of Autism, Intellectual Disability, Emotional Disability, and Developmental Delay. Easterseals Academy empowers each student to achieve peak academic performance, increase social and vocational skills, develop an effective means of communication and foster the acquisition of functional life skills for independence in the community. We maintain a high teacher-student ratio and each student has an Individualized Educational Program (IEP).?We offer integrated therapies and instruction is centered on evidence based practices.
Successful experience with special education and understanding of autism and related disorders.
Ability to create a safe, orderly, positive school climate for students and staff.
Demonstrate knowledge of the school improvement process, combined with understanding of child development, behavioral and social emotional development
Utilize conflict resolution strategies and problem-solving skills to address child, family, team or organizational issues
Demonstrate successful experience in shared decision making, program development, staff supervision and evaluation.
Knowledge and skill in fiscal management, staff development, and human relations.
Knowledge and demonstrative skills in the use of technology for teaching and learning.
Managerial skill in planning, organizing, delegating, and listening.
Knowledge of instructional best practices for students with disabilities, with emphasis on evidence-based practices.
Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or closely related field.
Professional Educator License with General Administrative endorsement or Director of Special Education endorsement or ability to obtain within a clearly defined time frame.
Minimum of five years’ experience working with individuals with disabilities with systematically increasing responsibilities.
Minimum of three years of experience in an administrative position.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Effective planning and leadership skills
Strong communication skills, and the ability to work with all stakeholders (i.e. staff, students, parents, administrators, board of education, and total school community)
