St. Matthew’s seeks a creative, inspirational, and innovative part-time Lower School Art Teacher who will support our students and parents to further the Mission, Philosophy, and Core Values of our school.
Teach art to groups of approximately 14-16 students in Kindergarten through 4th grade
Develop and deliver an art curriculum reflective of a wide variety of cultures, traditions, and styles, including those of historically underrepresented populations
Provide opportunities for children to explore issues of identity and culture through art
Model the school’s philosophy in working with students, parents, colleagues and administration
Work with the Lower School Director to carry out the educational program, including curriculum development and implementation, classroom management, student assessment, and parent communication
Collaborate with grade level colleagues, as well as work closely with other Lower School faculty around teaching and learning
Support students in achieving their full potential of development and growth, through observation of students’ behavior and needs, and consult with the school counselor and Director of Learning Services as needed
Write two progress reports, consisting of a mid-year and year-end checklist and narrative report
Communicate effectively with parents via phone, email, or conferences as needed
Attend and participate in the following, as the schedule allows: chapels, faculty in-service meetings, student assemblies, and other school functions, as requested
Attend weekly faculty meetings as the schedule allows and actively participate in curricular discussions
Participate in professional development opportunities and keep current on educational issues and trends
Qualifications and Salary
A minimum of two years prior experience in Lower School is essential. A master’s degree and California or other state teaching credential are preferred, but not required. This is a part-time position, 45% FTE or 18 hours per week. Compensation is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
