East Bay School for Boys is seeking a talented Part-Time Music Teacher to add to our teaching staff for the 2019/ 2020 school year. The position would be for about 8 hours a week, for a combination of our three grades: 6th, 7th and 8th, plus 1-2 hours of prep.
The focus of our music program is simply to inspire boys to love music, both in their appreciation of various forms and in their capacity to use their voice or instrument to express themselves. The ideal music candidate would be able to teach two separate music electives (7th and 8th graders) that focused on group choral or band work, each two hours a week, and an additional two class for two sections (total 4 hours) for all of our 6th graders to take in music appreciation, theory, rhythm, singing and production. We also put on a musical in the 6th grade, so the teacher would assist in supporting the drama teacher to provide the music, and get students performance ready during the second trimester of the school year. The ideal candidate:
has experience teaching middle schoolers, boys in particular;
has a strong and skillful approach to classroom management working with students from a variety of educational backgrounds and different learning styles;
is a strong communicator in person and through written communication;
be versatile musically, and can range from teaching singing, percussion, theory and instruments;
