Oakwood School in Northern Virginia is now accepting applications for a Part-Time Art Teacher with appropriate training to serve Elementary to Middle School students with learning disabilities. Teacher licensure in Art or a related field is required.
The Oakwood School Art Teacher instructs students in appreciating a variety of art, developing skills and techniques using various mediums, expressing themselves through art, and encouraging creativity. Integrating the arts into other areas of the curriculum is a crucial goal in this position. Art is an important avenue for self-expression and building self-esteem, as well as understanding one’s self as a learner.
An appropriate candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive art curriculum for elementary through middle school-aged students with learning disabilities that ties into the overall school curriculum and philosophy, adapt activities and lessons to accommodate the wide range of skill sets and abilities of the students, and provide feedback to classroom teachers about student performance and needs as part of the teaching team.
