Rosarian Academy seeks a full-time Social Studies Teacher for grades 5-8 for the 2019-2020 school year. The teacher works to develop in each student an appreciation of American ideals and cultural heritage; to develop proficiency in the use of social studies inquiry skills and concepts; to motivate each pupil to understand and exercise his rights, privileges, and responsibilities as a citizen; to develop understanding of the geographical, historical, cultural, and political factors which influence the development of world regions; to encourage pupils to develop sound opinions based on study of facts concerning operation of political and economic systems.
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Teaches social studies and incorporates language skills, writing skills and critical learning procedures, utilizing the course of study provided.
Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state laws, regulations and school policies.
Develops clear and appropriate lesson plans and identifies instructional materials on a weekly basis (minimum).
Selects, designs and organizes objectives, strategies and materials for teaching social studies, and incorporates research findings in the instructional program.
Provides individualized and small group instruction (as necessary) to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. He/she will have the ability to teach at various levels of instruction. Determines the appropriate pace for instruction related to students' abilities and explains material and subject content to students and parents. Differentiates instruction for students based upon need and works with students and other teachers in inclusive settings.
Establishes and maintains standards of behavior in the classroom and throughout the school to achieve a positive and functional learning atmosphere for students.
Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares student progress reports, and provides accurate and constructive feedback to students and (as necessary).
Creates an effective learning environment.
Participates in the selection of books and other instructional materials.
Supervises students in and out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
Administers group standardized tests in accordance with school regulations.
Participates in curriculum development programs.
Participates in faculty committees, meetings and other faculty sponsored programs supporting the educational program.
Maintains professional competence through school sponsored in-service programs and approved professional development activities.
Demonstrates regular and timely attendance.
Is able to speak and write in a clear, concise manner.
Is able to move throughout the building (all floors) and school grounds as necessary.
Collaborates and cooperates with other professional staff members and administrators in facilitating the delivery of the entire educational program to students, to include art, ESE, music, physical education, remedial and gifted programs.
Follows all school policies, and building procedures and submits required information and reports within identified timelines.
Perform as an advisor to a group of advisee’s for the purpose of advising them on academic, social, or future planning issues.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the administration.
Bachelor's degree in History or a related field of study. (Master’s Degree Preferred)
Valid Florida Teaching Certificate in secondary school certification, or will meet D.O.E. certification requirements for out-of-field teachers.
Three years of successful classroom teaching experience.
