Capitol Hill Day School seeks a full-time interim middle school math teacher for grades seven and eight. This is an interim position, opening at the end of August and running through November, resulting from a maternity leave vacancy.

The middle school math program is currently designed as a four-year sequence that thoughtfully and systematically helps students consolidate and deepen their learning of elementary math concepts while developing their understanding of algebraic principles. Students complete either Algebra 1 or PreAlgebra by the end of their 8th grade year. Emphasis is placed on cooperative learning activities, inquiry based lessons, and problem solving. In addition to classroom teaching, the position encompasses responsibilities including but not limited to homeroom teaching and student advising.

Requirements: Master’s degree and/or or extensive experience teaching math at the middle school level; understanding of child development and experience using a range of strategies to differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs.
