Belmont Day School seeks a resourceful, innovative, and nurturing kindergarten teacher to join a co-teacher working with approximately 26 students in a vibrant kindergarten classroom beginning fall 2019. This is a full-time, exempt, and benefit eligible position. It is a ten-month position and reports to the lower school head.
Create a rich, engaging, stimulating program for kindergarteners
Have both the developmental and pedagogical background to embrace this age group
Provide developmentally appropriate instruction and assessment in all curriculum areas, particularly reading, writing, and science
Differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of all students
Be able to develop and adjust curriculum to expertly support foundational skills and responsive content
Communicate verbally and in writing sensitively, regularly, clearly, and honestly with parents, informally and through conferences and trimester reports
Commit to building a diverse and inclusive classroom and community environment
Contribute to and benefit from working and collaborating with colleagues
Embrace the opportunities for technology in the classroom
Keep useful records to be able to assess students and design next steps
Participate enthusiastically in all aspects of an excellent school

Knowledge of kindergarteners and their developmental progression
Thorough understanding of instructional practices in early literacy instruction
Ability to develop and adapt curriculum in multiple subject areas
Establish and maintain strong home-school partnerships with families to ensure student success
Strong collegial and interpersonal skills
Great written and oral communication skills
Cultural competency based on experience and professional development in diversity work
Experience teaching young elementary students required; experience teaching kindergarten preferred
Training and/or experience with Responsive Classroom, Guided Reading, Fundations, Singapore Math, and Writer’s Workshop preferred
