The New School is looking for a passionate music educator to work in a highly collaborative, creative environment with students. Classes include vocal and instrumental instruction, with a heavy emphasis on curiosity, exploration, experiential learning, and appreciation of music in all forms and genres and as inherent to human expression.

The Music Teacher will be part of a team of specialists who support students across multiple grade levels. The teacher will have access to generous resources including material and supplies, state of the art technology and regular professional development experiences.
Teaches music classes (vocal, instrumental) for students that will awaken the joy of music in students.
Implement a broad range of teaching methods and employing an engaging repertoire of music from around the world with an emphasis on multiple instruments, singing, movement, rudimentary theory and musical games.
Plan and prepare engaging lesson plans and assessments in accordance with national standards based curriculum.
Creatively meet children throughout the grades with challenging and relevant material.
Work closely with other subject teachers to develop lessons and other cross curricular activities and integrated curriculum.
Write reports, student comments, and meet with administrators to support the needs of students.
Direct music assemblies and performances as determined by the school.
Develop a positive, professional, and gracefully playful rapport with students and a positive relationship with colleagues.
Ability to repair instruments or facilitate the process.
Bachelor’s degree in music or elementary or middle education required
At least 2-3 years of teaching experience at the K-8 level
Kodály and/ or Orff training preferred but not required
Interest to contribute to school community outside of the classroom as a coach, student advisor, student club leader, or other duties as assigned
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
