About Spruce Street Nursery School
Spruce Street Nursery School is a small, private nursery school located in the heart of downtown Boston. With four classrooms, a teacher to child ratio of 1:4, a beautiful open floor plan, and easy access to all the city has to offer, Spruce provides a warm, nurturing, child-centered early childhood environment where children are encouraged to create, explore, discover and develop lasting friendships. Parent involvement is an integral part of the Spruce experience, and families have ample opportunities to get involved with the life of the school.
We feel that children of all ages should come together to learn from and with each other. Although our classrooms are grouped and defined generally by age, all of the children have ample opportunity to work with other teachers and age groups as well. By encouraging interchange between classrooms a greater feeling of community is experienced as children both younger and older come to know and appreciate one another.
We are enormously proud of our dedicated and energetic staff. Our teachers are carefully selected for their strong interest in Early Childhood Education, and for their warmth and enthusiasm. By bringing varied and exte...nsive skills and experience to their work they make Spruce Street the joyful and creative environment that it is. We work in teaching teams to develop programs based on collaboration and cooperation as well as respect for the individual.
The Acorns, (ages 2.0-2.9), have 9 students and three teachers; the Willows (2.10-3.6) have three teachers with 16 children, and the Maples (3.7-4.2), and Oaks (4 turning 5 during the school year), with a group size of 12 each, also have two teachers per classroom. A Float teacher is on site daily, helping out wherever needed. In addition, a Music and Movement specialist provides fun and developmentally appropriate music classes twice weekly to each class.
