The Orchard School Founded in 1922, Orchard is an independent, non-sectarian, progressive school for 550 students in preschool through the 8th grade. The Orchard School is seeking an innovative, dynamic, collaborative school educator/counselor with a thorough understanding of adolescent development who can support the emotional well-being of our students. The primary responsibilities will be to teach Second Step’s SEL curriculum to middle school students and to maintain school records and meet reporting benchmarks in accordance with the terms of an existing grant.
Qualifications and Attributes
Bachelor’s degree in health science, education, or related field
Master’s degree in school counseling or related field preferred
Understanding of multiple learning styles and differentiated instruction
Ability to write narrative assessments
Ability to implement experiential learning activities that advance the targeted learning outcomes
Experience and enthusiasm for working with middle school students
Understanding of developmental stages of middle schoolers
Ability to deliver short-term, goal-focused counseling for individual or small groups of students
Ability to provide referrals to community providers when the need is demonstrated
Ability to implement group sessions for students on topics related to social and emotional wellness
A commitment to progressive education
Ability to work with technology to support, supplement, and enhance teaching and learning
Willingness to learn and improve professionally
Ability to collaborate and consult with parents, teachers, and administrators
Willingness to engage in all aspects of the Orchard community
