The Magellan International School (Colegio Internacional Magallanes), in Austin, Texas, has two openings for Primary Bilingual Lead Teachers. This position will work in our Primary School (Kindergarten - 5th Grade). Teachers are responsible for creating a progressive learning environment where students can demonstrate thoughtful and ethical behavior and ensure that the values and principles of the IB learner profile are at the heart of learning and relationships in the school. The Primary Bilingual Lead Teacher will support the personal and academic development of students in their classroom and contribute to extra-curricular, community, and service activities.
Plan and teach lessons following the IB curricula that differentiate for individual student needs and support students
Regularly meet and collaborate with Teacher Assistant to plan activities and Units of Inquiry
Use a wide range of technologies and creative teaching styles
Regularly contribute to curriculum planning and development including interdisciplinary units of work and the development of trans-disciplinary skills
Plan with colleagues to deliver effective team teaching when possible
Attend regular curriculum planning and student progress meetings
Communicate students' progress toward realizing academic character development goals
Essential Functions As It Relates To:
Promote high standards and expectations for all students for academic performance and responsibility for behavior
Improve student performance
Serve as a role model for students by dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession
Ensure that the instructional programs engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, questioning the known, problem solving and creativity, and address the range of skills and developmental needs found in the classroom
Encourage students to define individual goals
Maintain a safe and creative environment for their students
Plan educational field trips for the Units of Inquiry
Teach dual immersion of Spanish and English
Support teachers and co-workers
Attend all staff/faculty meetings
Meet with Primary Years Programme Coordinator to review curriculum plans and activities and evaluate program's effectiveness
Maintain records on each child's progress and development
Provide day-to-day supervision and support to Teacher Assistants, substitutes, and parent volunteers, which includes sharing daily program plans and discussing goals for children
Keep up-to-date records of attendance, curriculum, assessment tasks in ManageBac
Carry out supervision at break times, lunch times, and other times as required
Prepare documentation for IB external assessment
Communicate professionally and effectively to parents about student progress
Work with Room Parent in planning and participating in parent activities
Conduct individual parent conferences at the end of each term
Establish a positive relationship with each student's family
Provide presentations to parents as needed
Attend parent meetings when required
Communicate and collaborate with parents of high needs students
Curate local community offerings and communicate opportunities to school community
Promote the Magellan International School Mission
Create and maintain connections with relevant community resources

Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
A minimum of three years' experience in working with early childhood and/or elementary age students
Experience with authentic assessment practices
Experience in integrating IT with teaching
Demonstrate excellent leadership and organizational skills
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment
Ability to create a stimulating classroom environment
Ability to utilize the local context and environment to enhance learning

The position will oversee the work of his/her Teacher Assistant and reports to the Head of Primary School.

This job operates in a professional office as well as a classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines and requires lifting, bending, standing, and stooping.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
“Core” work hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Availability during occasional nights and weekend events.
Some out-of-area travel may be expected, but is not common.

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.
