Teacher Associates work as a member of a team with the classroom's Head Teacher to meet the responsibilities of daily classroom supervision and programming. Generally a Head Teacher collaborates with the Associate around observing and discussing the individual needs of each student and the curriculum. In turn, the Associate specifically supports differentiation goals in the classroom.
Desire to work with children; good common sense; strong knowledge of curricular areas being taughtwith a specific focus on differentiation; excellent interpersonal skills with staff, parents, students, and community; strong communication skills; competent organizational skills; willingness to further education; ability to learn and grow as an educator and employee.
Meet in grade level team weekly to collaborate with colleagues around curriculum
Attend relevant and necessary professional development opportunities
Gain a knowledge base about, and support the Head Teacher in the implementation of, all programming (including Responsive Classroom, Reading and Writing Workshop, Everyday Math, Handwriting Without Tears, and NPES designed curricula)
Partner with families to make a meaningful connection between home and school
Along with the Head Teacher, assess students’ abilities and determine individualized plans based on data, document student progress and educational concerns
Administer assessments, such as Fountas and Pinnell, to determine students’ levels
Along with the Head Teacher, practice differentiation strategies (i.e. small, flexible group instruction, 1:1 conferencing, graphic organizers/mapping, assessing through a variety of methods, adapting expectations to make assignments more challenging…)
Partner with Head Teacher with documentation for blog
Substitute, as necessary when the Head Teacher is not in the classroom (substitute in other classes in emergency only)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part time, 10 months
REPORTS TO: Head Teacher, Director of Learning Services, Director of Teaching and Learning
