The Miami Valley seeks a passionate and skillful teacher, who is eager to invest her/his talents in our lower school Mandarin program and world languages department. They should establish a supportive and engaging environment for lower school students (grades K-5) and our early childhood students (3 and 4 year olds), demonstrate the ability to create developmentally appropriate curricula, work collaboratively with colleagues and parents, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a teaching proficiency and comfort with a variety of different teaching and learning styles. In addition, this teacher will have completed coursework or teaching experience in Mandarin, and she/he should have a passion for sharing Chinese culture as manifested in music, films, cuisine, art and stories.
This teacher may also be asked to teach the upper school International Student Support Services course. This course is designed to help our Chinese international students be successful at MVS.
Strong candidates will have earned a bachelor’s degree in Education, Mandarin, or related field, an advanced degree is preferred.
Reports to: Director of Lower School

Meet all other expectations and responsibilities as outlined by the Faculty Handbook
Teach assigned sections of Mandarin
Lead/Co-lead Mini Immersion in Fall and Spring
Develop and propose new units each year, including new Mini Immersions
Update Canvas, MVS’ Learning Management Software (LMS), and MyBackpack regularly to keep both students and families informed about student progress, performance, and classroom news/happenings
Attend faculty meetings
Collaborate with the Heads of Department and Academic Team to develop a continuity of curriculum
Fulfill all other faculty responsibilities that may occur outside the school day, including writing reports and planning, attending school-related functions, which include but are not limited to: Parent Information Night (PIN), Parent-Teacher Conferences, Promotional Ceremonies and Graduation
Attend/ Participate in Monday Assembly and/or Morning Meetings
Undergraduate or Master Degree in Education, Mandarin or related field
Demonstrate computer literacy and proficiency (e.g., Google suite of applications, student information systems and online grade book programs)
Desire to work with lower students in an experiential and “hands-on” setting
