The Baldwin School is seeking an experienced, full-time Middle and Upper School Computer Science and Engineering Teacher, beginning in August, 2019. We are looking for a creative and collaborative educator who will contribute to the growth and innovation of our Computer Science and Engineering curriculum in the Middle and Upper Schools. Our program is a hands-on, project-based program that combines making with traditional computer science and engineering through our DREAM Lab® program. The successful candidate will be experienced in developing and implementing a project-based curriculum and be comfortable working in the hands-on aspects of the program, including 3D printing, laser cutting and soft circuit work.
The Computer Science and Engineering Teacher will teach courses in the Upper School, and will have primary responsibility for developing curriculum and courses in the Upper School. He/she will also teach one course in the Middle School, with the possibility that a second MS course may be added. This teacher should create enthusiasm for Computer Science and Engineering as a field of study for girls.
In addition to classroom responsibilities, faculty members contribute to the daily life of the school, by serving as advisers, mentoring students in co-curricular programs, actively participating in department and divisional meetings and embracing the many leadership opportunities available to Baldwin community members.
Essential Teacher Qualifications:
BA. in Computer Science, Engineering or a related STEM field, advanced degree preferred, or commensurate experience.
Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant classroom teaching experience, 3-5 years preferred, preferably in an independent school setting
Interest and experience in the purposeful use of technology in the classroom
Demonstrated experience with project-based learning and cross divisional collaboration preferred
Enthusiastic support of the School’s mission and the value of an all-girls educational experience
Able to engage and challenge all students in rigorous content, utilizing well-planned lessons
Creative in instructional techniques and classroom management strategies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with students, colleagues and parents
Seeks feedback to further on-going personal and professional growth
Well organized, flexible and collaborative
Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive school community
Has excitement, joy and passion for teaching Computer Science/Engineering to Middle and Upper School students
