St. Michael’s Country Day School, a non-sectarian, private, independent school in Newport, RI, is seeking a passionate music/band teacher who enjoys working with students in first through eighth grade and is interested in joining a vibrant learning community dedicated to fostering a love of learning, creativity and curiosity in elementary age students.
The responsibilities of the person hired for this position include:
Teaching vocal, general, and/or instrumental music classes for students in grades K-8, and prepare students for performances.
Conducting an instrumental band class for students in grades 5 through 8
Implementing a broad range of teaching methods and employing an engaging repertoire of classical, folk, and modern music from around the world with an emphasis on singing, movement, and musical games.
Planing and preparing engaging lesson plans in accordance with approved curriculum.
Working closely with other subject teachers to develop lessons and other cross curricular activities.
Writing reports and meeting with administrators and classroom teachers to support the needs of students.
Directing music assemblies and performances as determined by the school.
Developing a positive, professional, and warm rapport with students.
Inspiring in students an appreciation for music
Bachelor’s degree in music or elementary education
At least 2-3 years of teaching experience at the K-8 level preferred
Interest in musical theatre, songwriting, electronic music composition are a plus but not required
Interest in contributing to school community outside of the classroom as an athletic coach, student advisor, student club leader, or otherwise is also valued.
