We are currently seeking an Upper School Mathematics Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.
Position: Upper School Math and Computer Science Teacher Reports to: Head of the Upper School FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Description The Upper School Mathematics teacher is responsible for providing a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment that is in accordance with the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education and the philosophy that implements it. This philosophy includes providing children opportunities to develop spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. Convent of the Sacred Heart is a 1:1 laptop school and values the effective integration of technology into the learning process through enhanced collaboration, exploration, and creativity.
Essential Functions: • Teach a combination of computer science and math classes that may include AP level and non-AP level courses in Math and Computer Science. • Organize and provide developmentally appropriate educational programs and instruction; plan and implement curriculum and differentiated instruction for Upper School students • Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of students • Design and implement a supportive and caring classroom environment in which students can learn and interact positively with one another; oversee instruction and authentic assessment; supervise children in the classroom • Interact with parents; maintain open and cooperative communication with parents and families, and encourage their involvement • Participate regularly in Upper School and departmental meetings and perform various faculty supervisory duties
Qualifications Candidates should have a master’s degree in Mathematics/Computer Science and 3-5 years experience teaching the aforementioned courses to Upper School students. A strong candidate will be motivated to help advance our rigorous computer science curriculum. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven track record of teaching math and computer science and programming classes.
