The Orchard School Founded in 1922, Orchard is an independent, non-sectarian, progressive school for 550 students in preschool through the 8th grade. The Orchard School is seeking an innovative, dynamic, collaborative teacher with a strong background in Middle School Science who can enhance the current program. The successful candidate will also be an advisor, teach or co-teach a winter intensive class, and assist in chaperoning the class on an overnight trip.
Qualifications and Attributes
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in science, education, or related field
Experience and enthusiasm for working with middle school students
Understanding of multiple learning styles and differentiated instruction
Ability to write narrative assessments
Understanding of developmental stages of middle schoolers
A commitment to progressive education
Ability to design and balance hands-on labs, lectures, field studies, and experiential learning activities that advance the targeted learning outcomes
Ability to work with technology to support, supplement, and enhance teaching and learning
Excellent communication skills
Willingness to learn and improve professionally
Ability to collaborate and work with a team
Ability to work with parents in a thoughtful and proactive manner
Willingness to engage in all aspects of the Orchard community
