The Sage School(www.sageschool.org), seeks a full-time music teacher who will also serve as the Department Chair of Arts for a three-year term beginning in August 2019. This individual shall have the responsibility for providing highly engaging learning experiences in music through a constructivist approach, and will create a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to advance his/her musical ability using current methodology, curricula, and materials. The position also includes music direction for the school’s annual musical, school’s chorus, band(s), and the planning and implementation of afterschool offerings that may include but not limited to- instrumental lessons, choir, and other musical ensembles. The candidate needs to be collaborative in nature willing and able to connect music to other disciplines (arts and beyond).

Department Chair Responsibilities
This position reports to the Dean of Academics
Works in partnership and close collaboration with the department to facilitate the needs and direction of the department, including but not limited to supervision and evaluation, teaching assignments and evidenced-based or practice-based coaching.
Observes and coaches, models for teachers the use of student goals and accommodations for the purpose of differentiated learning.
Demonstrates attention to detail while ensuring the successful implementation of the departmental and whole-school vision.
Shares and delegates responsibility for all reporting and clerical duties related to the department.
Demonstrate the ability to work effectively and lead a small department, designing and planning field trips, parent events and other actions that enhance classroom learning.
Music Teacher Responsibilities
Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of music and implement a robust vocal and instrumental music program for elementary and middle school students and embraces a constructivist approach to teaching and learning
have experience with and/or understanding of gifted education
demonstrate personal skills and creative talents in music, and serve as a role model by cultivating these talents.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment, and current research.
Be capable of working collaboratively with other teachers to integrate music into other content areas.
Provide and supervise opportunities for students to demonstrate individually or in ensembles the skills and talents developed in the music program. These opportunities will on occasion fall outside the normal school day for teachers, including evenings and weekends.
Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English
Demonstrate the ability to use technology for communication and classroom purposes.
Review periodically the music curriculum and implement modifications when appropriate so the curriculum serves as a framework for planning sequential learning experiences.
Demonstrate personal skills and creative talents in music and serve as a role model by cultivating these talents.
