Established in 1920, Bentley School is a K-12 co-educational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland and Lafayette. Bentley is an inclusive community that shares a vision of transformative learning and respect for the individual. Bentley seeks a third-grade lead teacher at the Hiller campus in Oakland.
Responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to:
Serving as one of the lead teachers for third grade
Creating a positive learning environment where students thrive academically
Planning, implementing, and assessing grade-level language arts, math, social studies, and science curricula
Collaborating regularly with the other grade-level teachers and specialists
Participating in all aspects of Bentley’s character education curriculum
Designing innovative curricula in which both academic and social-emotional growth are considered
Attending regular Lower School faculty and grade-level meetings
Communicating effectively with parents through weekly newsletters, conferences, and report writing
Mentoring a Teaching Associate and supporting them in their professional development
Teaching credential or Master’s degree in Elementary Education and a minimum of three years of teaching experience
Ability and willingness to work with students in large and small group settings using multiple teaching methods to reach a broad range of students
Experience with Responsive Classroom, Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshop as well as inquiry-based instructional practices in math preferred
Desire to continually examine one’s practice with the goal to improve student learning
