The PreK teacher supports the Academy’s mission, vision and philosophy while overseeing the academic, social, physical, and emotional well-being of the students. In addition to outstanding teaching ability, the position requires expertise with the social and emotional needs of this age group and the ability to balance the encouragement of intellectual and character growth with the importance of play. We have found that professional educators who love to teach, collaborate, guide, coach, and mentor children as they learn and play, are well suited for teaching at Grey Nun Academy. This position reports to the Head of School and includes partnering with a teachers and school community in support of the Academy’s Mission and Vision.
Job Summary The Preschool Teacher is responsible for designing and implementing activities that promote social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development in each child. The ideal Preschool Teacher is also responsible for:
Implementing a rigorous yet developmentally appropriate curriculum based on best practices and research
Building a positive, safe, inclusive, and fun classroom community that is conducive to learning
Joyfully planning and executing dynamic, developmentally appropriate lessons
Informing Assistant Head of School and parents of student’s academic or behavioral difficulties, work together as a team to plan and implement success strategies
Building a positive, safe, inclusive, and fun classroom community
Collaborating and communicating with other teachers in the development of curriculum
Communicating consistently with parents about students’ goals and progress to involve families in the students’ education
Keeping accurate attendance records and completing progress and grade reports for each student in a timely manner using school guidelines
Increasing professional knowledge by participating in professional development opportunities
Participating in all events related to the academic calendar
The ideal candidates should possess many of the following qualifications:
Experience working with primary school-age children (preferably kindergarten and first grade); recent graduates are welcome to apply
Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (or equivalent qualifications)
Active teacher certification; Google Level 1 Certification will be required
A clear understanding of child development and elementary education
A sense of humor and warmth, connecting easily with students, teachers, and parents
Ability to engage students in rigorous content and well-planned, well-paced lessons in early literacy and math
Creativity in instructional and classroom management strategies
Ability to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed
Open to feedback and continuous growth in a positive way
Prior experience with developing project-based learning activities and integrating educational technology
Prior experience leading or participating in curriculum development
Attention to detail and the ability to respond quickly to time sensitive requests
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Work ethic to actively participate in a dynamic private school community and commitment to continuous improvement
