Tandem Friends School, a co-ed, Quaker, 5th-12th grade independent day school in Charlottesville, Virginia, seeks an experienced, Part-Time Middle School Music teacher for the 2019-20 school year. This is a yearlong position; the teacher will work with four different groups of 5th and 6th graders over the course of the year. Tandem Friends School uses a rotating schedule, so classes meet at different times on different days throughout the year.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents and is both capable of and comfortable with teaching students of a wide range of age, maturity, and ability levels. Experience with student-centered teaching and learning practices is desired. Tandem Friends’ music program is grounded in rock and jazz music. The ideal candidate has an eclectic music background, experience teaching music theory to younger students, and experience with the instruction of a wide range of instruments and vocal music.
