Organization Overview: Blyth-Templeton Academy is making 21st century learning and outcomes accessible to all by building a family of quality, affordable independent schools. BTA is a micro school that positions extraordinary, empathetic full-time and adjunct teaching talent to use block teaching and the city as a campus to maximize learning and minimize tuition.
Founded in 2015 in Capitol Hill, Blyth-Templeton Academy is a powerful answer to the question of what school should look like to position high school graduates to thrive in college, career and life in the 21st century. With an average class size of eight, and a maximum school size of 125, BTA’s academic program is built around three academic blocks of two hours and twenty minutes that foster deeper and experiential learning. While other schools spend millions every year on facilities, and increase tuition accordingly, BTA utilizes D.C.’s thousands of extraordinary educational assets as its campus — easily accessed from our home in the historic Hill Center, two blocks from the Eastern Market Metro Station. Position Summary: We are seeking a full-time High School STEM Coordinator/Teacher for school year 2019/2020. STEM at BTA is studied through a student-centered, inquiry-based interdisciplinary approach that requires active student engagement, project-based learning, and 21st century skills. Student agency and ownership of the material, learning how to ask the “right questions” rather than knowing the “right answers,” and the ability to work as part of a team are integral aspects of the BTA program. Faculty are a “guide on the side” rather than a “sage on the stage” and students are prepared to approach challenges as opportunities for learning rather than obstacles. The essential goals are connecting STEM concepts, skills, and knowledge to real-world understanding and generating life-long problem-solvers.
Develop and teach two STEM-related sections per term each school year.
Work individually with students as needed during the school day.
Mentor part-time STEM faculty.
Mentor students with STEM interests within and beyond the classroom.
Coordinate, support and promote co-curricular and interdisciplinary STEM courses/activities.
Assist the Academy Dean with student STEM placement and course selection.
Participate in faculty meetings and professional development activities.
Engage substantively in the life of the school outside the classroom, collaborate with colleagues and assume other duties as assigned.
Report to the Head of School.

This is a position for an independent learner who is committed to student-centered, experiential learning; someone who likes to experiment, evaluate and improve on everything they do; someone who has a deep respect for all young people; someone who has empathy for the challenges they face in their lives.
