St. Peter’s School is an independent, coeducational, non-sectarian Preschool through Eighth Grade school, educating approximately 200 students in the center of Philadelphia for over 180 years. We are seeking a dynamic Kindergarten substitute teacher who has experience planning an integrated curriculum, is committed to academic excellence and multiculturalism, and who understands the social and emotional growth and development of young children for the fall of the 2019-2020 school year. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, and the motivation to work collaboratively as a team with the current Kindergarten teacher to build a sense of community in and outside of the classroom.
Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
Ensure that multicultural themes and diverse perspectives are incorporated throughout the curriculum
Communicate regularly with families and Division Director
Work collaboratively and with mutual respect with all members of the faculty
Establish positive and productive relationships with students based on mutual respect and good will
Use a variety of teaching techniques suitable to the developmental age and needs of the students and subject matter being taught
Provide differentiated instruction
Utilize a variety of technology formats to collaborate, publish, and engage with peers, families, and colleagues
Plan, deliver, and assess academic and social-emotional curricula in collaboration with grade level partner, specialist teachers, learning support faculty, and Division Director
Attend faculty meetings, pursue professional development opportunities, and contribute to committees on campus
Model ethical and professional behavior
Assist with additional duties as needed or assigned
Demonstrate a commitment to and actively support the Community Code and the School Mission
To honor the richness of childhood, foster mastery of academic principles,
and educate students to be generous and committed citizens of their communities and the world.
Knowledge of current early childhood educational best practices
Ability to work as a cooperative member of a team
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact with students of all ages, parents, and colleagues
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field is preferred
