Poly Prep seeks applicants for a part-time leave replacement for Middle School Vocal Music Teacher, September-December 2019.
Poly Prep strives to provide a joyful, diverse, just, and equitable education for our students. We seek a a part-time vocal Music teacher for Middle School with knowledge of and practice in music pedagogy, experience directing band and/or small instrumental ensembles, and teaching academic music courses; and whose competence, integrity, and collegiality will enrich our school and Performing Arts Department.
The successful candidate will possess excellent content knowledge; expertise playing instruments in the reed and/or brass families; passion for teaching and learning; enthusiasm for working with students, families, and colleagues; a growth mindset; and a sense of humor. They will be able to inspire and empower students to learn; collaborate and engage in daily discourse about the arts with students and colleagues; write well; and commit to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. The ideal candidate will have an Undergraduate and Graduate degree in music performance and/or music education and teaching and directing experience is preferred.
Additionally, we seek a candidate who aspires to uphold our departmental mission statement: “The Performing Arts program at Poly Prep enables all students to explore the creative process through collaboration, developing confidence and empathy as they express themselves in the performance of dance, debate, drama, and music, thus enriching their social, emotional, and intellectual growth.”
Full-time schedule includes:
Teach 6th grade beginning instrumental group lessons
Teach two sections of Upper School appreciation course “Music Studies”
Direct/and or assist with the Middle School Band, Upper School Band and Upper School Jazz Band
Directing an after school ensemble or club
Advocating on behalf of arts education, Poly’s music program and act as a representative of the Performing Arts Department within the community and beyond.
Generating happiness and a positive outlook on life and learning
Being an advisor for a group of students (7-10)
Attending community events throughout the school year
Attending and contributing to meetings during and after the school day, including but not
limited to: department, committee, division, and grade-level meetings
