The assistant principal will support the principal’s efforts to advance an educational program that enables all students to master common core state standards, demonstrate responsible citizenship, and, overall, position students to succeed at the high school level.
Students need an energetic administrator who can work collaboratively, communicate clearly, and shepherd projects/tasks to completion. This administrator should have a good working knowledge of standards-based practice, teacher evaluation, counseling, and task organization. The assistant principal needs to opportunistically model and reinforce behaviors that make students and their parents the highest priority. Further, he/she must be able to positively engage all community sectors so that every student feels validated and that every student knows that only his/her best effort is acceptable.
Finally, the assistant principal must possess interpersonal skills that allow him/her to “connect” with staff, students, parents, and Carpinteria’s citizenry in a way that maximizes everyone’s effort to achieve excellence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Support the principal in all aspects of school leadership
Work closely with principal and the administrative team to create master schedules aligned to assess needs
Oversee data/collection and analysis to improve achievement
Organize school programs
Develop and monitor budgets
Evaluate Certificated and Classified staff
Coordinate professional development
Ensure a safe, secure, and attractive campus
Establish sustainable programs that advance the school
Inspires others to give their best effort
Encourage risk-taking to improve achievement
Shows a sense of humor
Works well in a culture of shared responsibility
Supports the principal in all aspects of leading the school
Works well under pressure
Experience, Knowledge & Abilities:
At least 3 years teaching experience at the secondary school level
Experience in using achievement data to address instructional needs
Experience working with master schedules
Experience in working with diverse cultural/language groups
Experience in “building” and monitoring budgets
Knowledge of certificated and classified evaluation
Communicate verbally and in writing (fluency in Spanish desirable)
Interact positively with parents, students, staff, and community members
Put in the long hours of an assistant principal
Fluency in Spanish, a minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience, a Master's degree, and a Valid CA Administrative Services Credential authorizing service as a secondary school assistant principal is required. Administrative experience is preferred.
