The Harley School has an opening for an elementary Art teaching position in the Lower School for the 2019-20 school year. The Lower School visual arts teacher will have a strong pedagogical approach to teaching art and creative expression, as well as work closely with the classroom teachers and other specialists to integrate content areas, as appropriate. In addition to working with the Lower School faculty, the art teacher will also work closely with all members of the visual arts department and department chair, and Lower School division head.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Teach K-4th Grade Art and Mindfulness classes
Contribute to the creative and artistic life of the school
Fulfill duties which support the Lower School (bus duty, faculty meetings, open houses)
Provide written student-progress reports to the school and parents at regular intervals
Aid in the creation and production of the annual Pageant set
Be involved in the school community at large.
Requirements and Attributes:
Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Education, or related field; graduate degree preferred
3+ years of teaching experience
Experience with student-directed, inquiry-based, or Reggio approaches, and previous work at an independent school are preferred
Respect and appreciation that all children are creative and artistic
Excellent written and oral communication skills

An educator who is excited to explore new techniques and materials with students, in both two and three dimensional media.

An educator who is enthusiastic about collaborative learning and active in the learning community; creative and innovative when working with diverse learners and faculty.
