Reporting to the Principal, the PS Homeroom Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing differentiated instruction based on ongoing assessment; communicating clearly with parents and colleagues; and coordinating support with the best interests of each individual child in mind.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Primary School homeroom teacher’s key responsibilities are outlined below. The Principal and/or Assistant Principal may assign additional duties in support of School objectives.
Plans and implements clear, well-thought-out lesson plans that connect in-class learning to the real-world situations.
Creates an established set of expectations for thinking and learning and encourages students to engage deeply in reasoning and analysis.
Creates and promotes a learning environment that is inclusive; inspires learning, collaboration and reflection; and fosters student independence.
Focuses students’ attention on big-picture issues, important ideas in the world, and in making meaningful connections within and beyond the discipline.
Uses a variety of instructional and assessment methods to meet the needs of all learners and provides varied forms of feedback.
Uses technology in the classroom when it will enhance learning.
Highlights students’ successes and areas of growth through assessment.
Effectively communicates in a timely and clear manner with students, parents, and colleagues, including during back to school nights and celebrations of learning.
Actively seeks opportunities for professional growth.
Represents WIS in a manner that reflects the Mission and the Core Beliefs of Learning.
Works with management and staff in a constructive, collaborative, and cooperative manner.
Monitors the academic, personal, emotional, and social progress of students.
Ensures safety of students, following supervision standards and guidelines in common areas.
Uses digital platforms (e.g. Seesaw, onCampus) to provide feedback and information to parents and students; completes progress reports and report cards in alignment with school requirements.
Implements support strategies with the Student Support Team, and communicates with parents regarding support.
Supervises students as they transition throughout the day, e.g. arrival, recess, lunch, specials classes, dismissal.
Fulfills administrative tasks, such as timely completion and correction of attendance.
Works with admissions to support appropriate acceptance and placement of students at WIS.
Keeps accurate and reliable materials in designated substitute folder.
Engages with students, colleagues, and parents to foster a sense of community.
Previous teaching experience is preferable, but not required
Experience with the IB PYP is preferable, but not required

Typically, one half to three-quarters of WIS graduates earn the Bilingual IB Diploma, demonstrating fluency in two languages.
