Position Title: Student Support Teacher - Reading Specialist
Status (FT-PT-Hourly): FT
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Reports to: Head of Middle School
The Student Support Teacher / Reading Specialist is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program for students with learning disabilities and/or students who require targeted interventions to achieve grade-level literacy objectives. This position serves as a member of the Middle School Student Support Team and is responsible for creating an educational atmosphere in which students have the opportunity to reach academic potential and achieve intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual, and psychological growth.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide specialized instruction to individuals and groups in both push-in and pull-out modes of instruction
Provide short term and on-going student interventions in targeted areas, as needed
Collaborate with faculty to plan and develop differentiated instruction and assessments that support successful student learning
Support the implementation of the IB MYP curriculum and instructional practice
Observe students and make recommendations for targeted support
Develop and support faculty in the implementation of management strategies to support students as their individual needs require
Liaise with the Admissions Department regarding students who have documented learning differences for MS Applicants.
Manage external data collection (iReady and ERB) to support differentiation
Provide assistance in the diagnosis of reading performance
Support teachers in developing and implementing RTI plans to address student reading deficiencies
Coordinate academic tutoring in accordance with the SA Tutoring Policy
Other duties as assigned by the Head of Middle School
Bachelor’s degree in an education-related field; Masters degree preferred
Demonstrated success serving students with diverse learning needs in an independent school or a similar setting
Strong organization skills
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of constituents
Strong work ethic
