Lake Forest Country Day School is seeking a Middle School Director of Bands and music educator for the upcoming 2019-20 school year. The band program begins as a general music class for all fifth-grade students, while sixth through eighth-grade students may choose to participate in the Concert and Symphonic Band. These rehearsals occur before school and small group lessons/sectionals take place throughout the school day. The Director of Bands collaborates with two other music teachers in the school to provide our students with an integrated music education which focuses on music literacy, listening and analysis, and performance. In addition, the Director of Bands works closely with a vibrant Fine Arts Department to achieve the common goal of artistic literacy for all of our students.
LFCDS, located on a 30-acre campus about 30 miles north of Chicago, Illinois, is a co-educational, independent day school serving 400 students from age 2 through eighth grade. Director of Bands & Music Teacher
Serve as the Director of Bands and member of the Fine Arts Department
Teach a sixth-grade general music class which includes elements of music technology/innovation
Implement a sequential music literacy program for Upper School students based on the current curricula
Provide individual, small group, and ensemble instrument sectional instruction in brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments
Plan and select repertoire for fall and spring concerts
Help students prepare for solo and ensemble contest
Member of the Fine Arts Department
Participate in dialogue with two other teachers of music to develop continuity and mutual support
Attend regular department meetings and support all Fine Arts events at the school
Work as part of the Fine Arts team, ensuring that teamwork, flexibility, sense of humor and creative problems solving remain important
Work and plan with individual instrumental private instructors
Develop and balance band budget
Organize instrumental rental program for the Beginning Band program
Member of the Faculty
Engage in activities that foster/celebrate our students as creative individuals
Additional responsibilities may include
Serve as an academic advisor
Attend regular team meetings
Engage in team-level collaboration and goal setting
Establish common and/or compatible classroom management expectations and team management protocol
Perform all non-teaching duties assigned by the Upper School Head
Help to flexibly organize time within the daily schedule
Plan and revise curriculum as needed
Write narrative progress reports
Articulate regular parent communication
