Madison Country Day School, a Pre-K through grade 12 International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, is seeking a dynamic and experienced educator for the 2019-20 school year as a full-time fifth-grade humanities teacher.
Applicants should possess not just a love of history and English, but also a love of working with adolescents and the desire to advance both an evolving school and your own professional expertise. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic educator who inspires others through optimism, selflessness, flexibility, and teamwork. The candidate possesses a willingness to collaborate with dedicated educators within the MCDS faculty. Experience teaching in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme is encouraged, but not required.
The successful candidate will:
Be passionate about teaching middle school students in fifth grade
Enjoy working within collaborative history and English departments
Have experience teaching reading and writing skills and strategies to fifth-grade students
Be comfortable introducing and teaching skills including critical problem solving, writing, speaking, questioning, and researching to fifth-grade students
Have the ability to design and facilitate rigorous, empowering lesson plans that are student-centered and thought-provoking
Have intellectual curiosity and a desire to spark a love of learning in students
Have excellent communication skills, a genuine appreciation of adolescents, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well within a collaborative environment
Be comfortable partnering and communicating with parents
Serve as a middle school advisor
Be expected to contribute to the school’s extracurricular offerings
Have a required bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
Warm and friendly personality
Sensitive to the feelings and needs of others
Ability to relate well to children, families, staff, and community
2 years of teaching experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent listening skills
Comfortable differentiating instruction
Classroom management skills
