The Phelps School seeks an instructor to join its ESL Program faculty for the 2019-20 school year. Instructional duties begin in late August and continue through the end of May.
Teachers at Phelps serve as advisors to as many as five students and are fully involved in co-curricular programs as coaches, activity sponsors, weekend trip chaperones, and community service project supervisors. Some reside on campus in faculty housing and serve as dorm parents (supervisors). Others live locally and commute to campus each day. All are dynamic men and women dedicated to helping each boy become a better man – in and out of the classroom. They enjoy working with students in relatively small classes and engaging collaboratively in curriculum design and constant professional improvement. They strive to integrate technology into their teaching and to help improve students’ creativity and critical thinking skills.
The new teacher will have the opportunity to serve on the residential life staff, with campus housing and utilities provided.
PA Teaching Certification or coursework sufficient to obtain PA Private Academic Certification
Facility with a variety of instructional methods and assessments
Ability to create a learning environment that addresses and supports each student’s needs
Training and experience in developing international students’ language skills essential for learning in all academic subject areas.
