CURRICULUM ASSIGNMENT: Teach four or five sections of English/Language Arts, with an emphasis on building fluency. Participate in our advisory program. Play a role in afternoon programming. Demonstrate lifelong learning with continued professional development. Depending on the instructor’s background, the possibility of teaching an elective may be part of this position.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Full-time teachers are assigned various school duties, such as committee members. Work hours may change depending on schedule and circumstances. Normally full-time teachers are expected to be on campus 7:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Full-time teachers are expected to participate in official school events during the weekends as set out in the School Calendar or as the President requires, including occasional rostered contribution (not more than once a Quarter) to the Saturday or Sunday curriculum program. Full-time teachers are expected to assist with Study Hall 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. one evening a week in accordance with the Guide to Study Hall Supervision. Rosters for days and dates for Saturday/Sunday and Study Hall duties will be drawn up by the Vice President and published at least a Quarter in advance. Full-time teachers are expected to contribute to the Academic Extension (AE) program (3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.) one afternoon a week. STARTING DATE: September 1, 2019 (preparation may starts from the late August) COMPENSATION: Salary commensurate with education and experience. Keio Academy seeks an English teacher with a strong background in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree from an accredited university, teaching experience at the Middle/ Upper School level, and a deep understanding of language acquisition. Appropriate teaching certification preferred. Boarding school experience preferred. Applicants should be familiar with various TESOL methodologies and/or interested to learn about and implement them. Applicants should have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. They should demonstrate a flexible, positive, and a can-do disposition. They must enjoy working with adolescents. Ability and desire to teach across grade levels and divisions is a significant plus.
