The Buckley School, a leading K – 12 independent school in the San Fernando Valley, has a part-time Dance Teacher opening for the 2019-2020 school year. This teacher will eligible for full benefits and will teach Middle and Upper School dance classes, be responsible for developing and maintaining curriculum for the courses taught, and may have an advisory of approximately 8 students. In conjunction with other dance teachers and the department chair, this instructor will choreograph dances for and help to oversee the annual spring dance concert.
Minimum of two years’ classroom experience teaching dance at the middle or upper school level
Familiarity/expertise in techniques including (but not limited to): ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, hip-hop, improvisation, choreography/composition, and world dance
Demonstrated competency in diversity, multiculturalism, inclusion, equity and social justice
Proficiency with technology
Exceptional interpersonal and written skills
Choreograph, collaborate on, rehearse, and oversee production of class numbers for the annual dance festival including mandatory evening and possible weekend rehearsals.
Preferred candidates will have
BFA, MA, or MFA in Dance, Dance Education, and/or Choreography
Experience in theatre education
Familiarity with developmentally appropriate dance education pedagogy and practice
An ability to facilitate and support student creativity and to help students find their artistic voices
Experience overseeing student dance productions and performance, including the supervision and mentoring of student work from conception to completion; a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and communicate with students/parents; experience with technical production elements; an ability to multi-task and collaborate with colleagues, both in the arts and across disciplines
