The Doane Stuart School seeks an experienced high school/upper school Spanish teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. We are seeking an energetic, ambitious, and hard-working individual who connects easily with students, faculty, and the community. The Upper School program focuses on preparing students in grades 9 - 12 for college and life. Doane Stuart is built around rigorous intellectual exploration and joyful discovery. Students are challenged to think deeply about concepts and ideas, to make learning personal and relevant, to ask questions, and to look for broader truths and understanding. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate a student-centered approach to teaching and learning, attention to the “whole student,” strong differentiation skills, a commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy, and a strong grounding in best practices.
The school expects candidates to have a willingness and ability to use differentiated instruction in the classroom. Teachers utilize a student-centered pedagogy. Technology is used as a teaching tool as well as a student resource. The successful candidate will be part of a close-knit teaching and learning community. A high degree of teamwork, collaboration, and communication are a must; a sense of humor is appreciated. Doane Stuart values high initiative, creativity, and flexibility.
The Upper School Spanish teacher is a member of the school faculty and is responsible for all of the duties thereof. A successful candidate will possess solid Spanish speaking skills and be able to evaluate student progress in comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing the Spanish language appropriate for the level being taught. Though teaching Spanish is the primary responsibility, an additional desire to be involved in extracurricular activities is preferred. Additional responsibilities for all full-time teachers include partnering with families, assessing and evaluating student progress, advising students, supporting admissions work, and participating in faculty meetings, teacher conferences, and school events, and other duties as assigned.
An independent, co-educational day school serving the greater Albany area, Doane Stuart is an Equal Opportunity Employer and actively seeks to forward diversity through its programs and hiring. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and three professional references to James Wheaton, Upper School Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
