Ojai Valley School (www.ovs.org) is a pre-kindergarten to grade 12 independent boarding and day school located on two campuses in Ojai, California. The Lower Campus serve s students in grades PK-8 and the Upper Campus serves students in grades 9-12.
Summary of Position Ojai Valley School seeks an energetic Director of Development to work with the Director of Advancement and Admission, the Capital Campaigns and Major Gifts Officer, as well as other members of the administrative team, to increase annual and capital campaign giving, cultivate parent and alumni relations, assist in the planning of special events, and contribute to print and electronic communications in support of the advancement of the school community.

The selected Director must have the confidence, presence, and experience to help our annual and capital fundraising initiatives on schedule and progressing with a sense of teamwork and optimism for achieving our goals together, as well as experience with solicitations, effective communications, donor recognition and stewardship.
Essential Duties and Functions of the Director of Development include:
• Accurately and enthusiastically communicating information about the school’s mission, academic and co-curricular programs, future plans, and campaign goals to current families, alumni, and prospective donors with a goal of sustaining and increasing philanthropy. • Leading the Annual Fund, including but not limited to print and electronic communications, special events, solicitations, and collaboration with administrative leaders. • Working closely with the Director of Advancement, the Major Gifts Officer and school leadership on Capital Campaign projects, including prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, closure of major gifts, and follow-up. • Using Generations database and other sources to update donor records and conduct research to identify prospective donors. • Collaborating with the President/CEO, the Director of Advancement, and Major Gifts Officer on solicitations and donor outreach. • Leading Campaign volunteers in maintaining two-way donor communications for meaningful engagement and solicitation meetings under favorable circumstances. • Working with the above and the Database and Annual Giving Manager to develop Annual Fund and Capital Campaign letters and other materials for distribution • Working closely with the Database and Annual Giving Manager to be aware of incoming gifts and pledges so donors receive official acknowledgment by mail, and also receive personal thanks by phone and email from other members of the Development team. • Collaborating with School leaders to develop personalized recognition and stewardship opportunities for leadership donors. • Working with the Communications staff to develop and execute an outreach plan to keep School constituencies informed, excited, and positively supportive of our efforts in philanthropy. • Collaborating with others on the Development Team to plan and execute School and Campaign-related events.
The candidate for this position must be an outgoing, innovative professional with exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills. The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fundraising and/or volunteer management. Preference will be given to individuals who have worked in development or alumni relations at an independent school, particularly in a boarding school environment. Experience in event planning and coordination, international travel and/or experience working with constituents in a diverse global community, and the ability to multitask, take direction, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment are essential to this position.
