Laguna Blanca School is seeking a full time Spanish instructor beginning in August 2019.
Laguna Blanca School is a college preparatory, coeducational day school located on two campuses in Santa Barbara, California. Grades EK-4 are located on a bucolic campus in Montecito, while Grades 5-12 are located on Laguna’s historic campus in Hope Ranch. With a faculty to student ratio of 1:8, average class size of 15, and average grade size of 40, Laguna emphasizes its core values of scholarship, character, balance, and community in its programs.
As a Spanish teacher, you will provide instruction in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding the Spanish language, as well as lessons in Spanish literature and culture. Topics vary between grade levels and courses, focusing on grammar, pronunciation, composition, spelling, vocabulary, and dialogue. History and culture of Spanish-speaking countries should also be included.
You will plan lessons and activities, grade student work, and meet with parents as needed.
This position requires teaching Spanish to 5th and 6th grades, in addition, depending on the academic year we would prefer the instructor to have proficiency in all levels of Spanish: Sp. 1, Sp.2, Sp. 3, Sp.3 Honors, Sp. 4, Sp. 4 Honors, AP Spanish Language and Culture, and Spanish Literature Honors.
As a full time teacher (5 classes), you will lead an advisory group of 8-10 students and must participate in all advisory activities.
Experience with Project Based Learning (PBL) and collaborative learning is preferred.
You will participate in school trips, school functions, and faculty meetings.
