Falk Laboratory School, a coeducational K-8 school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, seeks a full-time educator to work with children in Kindergarten (2 days/week) and with students with a range of disabilities (3 days/week) for the 2019 - 2020 academic year. Candidates must have empathy for, and a genuine interest in, developing positive educational experiences for all students particularly for those with Learning Disabilities, executive function difficulties, and other learning differences.
Among the professional duties of a Falk Kindergarten teacher are the following:
Collaborate closely with members of the Kindergarten team within a co-teaching model. This includes planning and providing instruction in all relevant content areas.
Demonstrate sensitivity to children's differences and needs while also understanding the importance of developing strong working relationships with families.
Exhibit an authentic passion and enthusiasm for progressive education and understanding the value of inquiry and exploration.
Among the professional duties of a Falk Learning Specialist (K-8) are the following:
Collaborate with staff members and parents/guardians in order to create and implement intervention programs that maximize students' access to the general education content.
Administer initial screening and diagnostic testing in both reading and mathematics to identify students who need remedial instruction.
Develop and teach motivating, engaging lessons that are grounded in best practices, and are appropriate to students' ages, grade levels and abilities.
Create modifications and adaptations to support instruction.
Serve as a member of the Student Services committee.
Observe, evaluate, and prepare reports on students' progress.
A Master of Education Degree in the field of Education is required. Special Education degree is preferred. Broad experience in a school setting is advantageous as the position involves partnering across disciplines and grade levels.
Offer of employment is contingent on candidate satisfactorily obtaining and passing the following prior to commencement of appointment: Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check. Also, as required by Act 168 of 2014, candidate must satisfy the requirements stated on the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Education Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release Form.
