Established in 1920, Bentley School is a K-12 coeducational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland and Lafayette. Bentley seeks a full-time high school history teacher who will teach sections of United States History and junior/senior honors seminars.
Responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to:
Plan and deliver lessons on US history and theme-focused honors seminars utilizing creative and engaging techniques.
Prepare academic materials, including homework assignments, syllabi, and instructional handouts; report to the department chair regularly regarding effectiveness of concepts.
Facilitate classroom discussions and encourage the participation of all students, incorporating relevant reading and current events.
Grade papers, tests and homework, monitoring progress and adapting lesson plans to meet students’ needs.
Assess individual strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of each student, addressing issues as needed.
Communicate with parents when necessary regarding noteworthy achievements, academic challenges, special considerations or concerns you feel their child needs to succeed.
Serve as advisor and meet regularly with your advisees.
Operate as a collaborative and inspiring colleague to your fellow teachers and administrators.
Additional duties and responsibilities as determined by the Head of Upper School or Head of School.
Bachelor’s degree in history
Proven experience as a teacher
Effective oral and written communication
Master’s degree, Ph.D
Independent school experience
