Green Acres School is seeking a dedicated full-time 7th and 8th grade Spanish teacher to substitute for a teacher on temporary leave. The position should last at least until Thanksgiving and could stretch past that. The approach to teaching languages that we embrace, based on research in language development, is highly communicative. Teachers conduct classes in Spanish as much as possible, balancing work in the Pearson Realidades textbooks with authentic conversations, listening and speaking exercises, skits, written stories, and other engaging activities to get the kids both learning new skills, vocabulary, and concepts, and also honing their ability to genuinely use the language through receptive and generative practice. The teacher will also work towards preparing the students for the National Spanish Exam.
The successful candidate will have a background in Spanish education. She or he will have native or native-like fluency in the Spanish language and will have the skills to provide differentiated instruction and to integrate technology into the curriculum. A bachelor’s degree is required.
