Basic Summary: Oaks Christian School is seeking a dynamic, Christian, licensed therapist with a strong understanding of pre-adolescent and adolescent students to serve as a Social Emotional Learning Wellness Counselor for the OCS High School. This individual will work closely with the Academic Leadership Team, the High School Administrative Team, the Spiritual Life Department, as well as the Director Academic Success program/Learning Specialist(s) and nursing staff. This person will develop and implement Social Emotional Learning and Wellness programs and practices, including incorporating the latest research from neuroscience, psychology, and education into these programs.
Primary Functions (and other duties as may be assigned):
Develop, conduct and oversee all aspects of an appropriate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program including:
Articulate and ensure a climate of positive social and emotional learning through curriculum implementation, continual program assessment and new program development.
Create opportunities for teachers and support staff to strengthen their SEL foundations, build a SEL program within a Biblical Worldview and ensure that faculty receive ongoing training and support to integrate best practices in the classroom.
Work within the current Partnership with Parents programming to support a broad spectrum of parent education in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) within a Biblical worldview.
Works with school-level teams and staff to effect positive social, emotional, behavioral changes
Collaborate with Director of Academic Success Program/Learning, Nursing Staff, Student Deans/Academic Dean, College Counseling, Spiritual Life, Student Life and the Academic and HS Leadership Teams.
Crisis Intervention and Response:
Identify students and families who are dealing with social or emotional challenges.
Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with administrators, teachers, parents and students.
Work with parents and students in referring students out for clinical consultation.
Provide appropriate crisis intervention in order to ensure student safety until such time as intervening authorities, parents or referral agencies can control.
Communicates with outside professionals as necessary
Work with students and parents on appropriate ‘Return to Learn’ protocols and re-integration and re-emergence strategies.
Program Integration and Administration:
Works effectively with the High School Leadership Team
Effectively identifies, screens and establishes a ‘Referral bank’ of approved and qualified service providers to whom the school can refer students and families to for SEL service needs.
Effectively meets with, identifies, assesses and refers-out students in need of SEL psychological services.
Advises and leads the Student Response Team to identify, create and implement an effective ‘Referral-Out Plan’ for students in the school community demonstrating a need for counseling services.
Maintains comprehensive and accurate records of these activities and programs
Assists in the planning and delivery of student, parent, faculty and staff SEL educational seminars and class meetings
Keeps current about social, emotional, and physical issues which potentially affect student well-being.
Identify and benchmark mental health providers to ensure that Oaks Christian School’s assessments and practices reflect the best practices.
Requires a Masters or Doctorate in Psychology or related field, must hold a current license in the State of California for Licensed Psychologist, Marriage Family Therapist (MFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
Significant prior experience as an adolescent counselor preferably in a school environment.
Deep understanding of school communities and school-based programs.
Excellent clinical, interpersonal and management skills.
Collaborative, team-based approach to working with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and outside care providers.
Strong knowledge of the ethical and legal considerations related to counseling practices.
Prior SEL programming experience preferred.
Maintains necessary licenses and personal insurance coverages as are standard and common practice.

Outstanding interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, and strong discernment and decision-making aptitude are essential to be successful in this position
Organizational and time management skills
Ability to use basic office equipment
