The P.E. teacher should possess a thorough understanding of intermediate and upper school grades fitness curriculum and program, along with the ability to teach a wide range of school age children. This position is also responsible for developing and evolving a curriculum that focuses on group activities, a variety of athletic games, as well as individual skills and lifetime fitness knowledge. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for developing the overall health and wellness of their students with a high level of engagement, leadership, and compassion.
Physical Education Job Qualifications:
Experience in intermediate and upper school Physical Education instruction is required
Physical Education and Wellness Program and curriculum development experience
High interest in and experience with athletics and physical wellness
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Comfort using technology as an integrated part of the physical education and documentation
Collaborative mindset; adept at working with teams, open to new ideas and professional feedback
Deep engagement in pedagogy trends, research, and best practices; including functional movement systems
Adaptability as it relates to the evolving nature of an evolving school community and program
Ability to demonstrate understanding of pedagogy and methods of physical education instruction and general classroom management
Commitment to the school's mission
Education Background: a Bachelor’s degree in Education, in physical education, and/or health is strongly preferred.
Auxiliary Athletics Job Qualifications:
Experience developing intermediate and upper school extracurricular athletic activities
Athletics knowledge that fosters skill development, understanding of sports, and appreciation for a variety of athletic activities and programs, teaming, and sportsmanship for students.
Grade level-specific physical education and wellness curriculum development
Collaborate with classroom teachers and additional discipline teachers to plan and implement lessons
Co-lead organize and execution of Fall and Spring Field Day
Physical fitness leadership role on the Wellness Committee
Contribute to individual student documentation and evaluation
Family communication: blogs, conferences
Co-development of after-school athletics department in tandem with Auxiliary Director.
Supervision of after-school athletics programs on Tuesdays/Thursdays
Manages coaches, arranges scrimmages, assists with player requirements (academic standing), registration management, and additional responsibilities as assigned
Professional Development: Monday afternoon faculty meetings and Wednesday afternoon, ongoing professional development in and out of school, beginning and end of year PD
Participation in family/community evening/weekend events: Curriculum Night, Family Association Meeting and 2 of the following required; Parent Panel, Open House, New Family Play Date or other additional Admissions/Marketing outreach events.
Participation in self-evaluation and reflection process; individual and team meetings with supervisor
Supervision responsibilities may include: recess, lunch, snack
Responsibilities are not all-inclusive and will include other duties as assigned
Mondays & Wednesdays: 7:30a-5:00p M/W (Faculty meetings and Professional Development)
Tuesday, Thursdays, & Fridays: 9:00a-5:30p (After-school supervision of Athletics. On Fridays, potentially coaching Upper School starting Trimester 2)
Physical strength to independently lift 20-25 lbs
Fluency in written and oral language in English
Ability to oversee and ensure the safety of children in and out of the classroom
