Temporary Leave Middle School Math Teacher Opening

The position is a temporary leave, full-time (100%) Middle School Math teaching position for a limited duration of time from December to February (anticipated dates 12/2/19-3/6/20). 

The teacher reports to the Division Head or the Head of School. The duties are:

• Teach all students
• Prepare classes, participate in curriculum development and harmonization with colleagues
• Supervise all students during teaching times
• Supervise students during recesses and lunches assigned
• Participate in meetings
• Participate in events
• Participate in student life
• Take on advisory roll

All duties above are included in the teacher contract. A schedule of meetings is provided to teachers.

More specifically, in addition to the general FASPS Teacher Job Description (see below), the Middle School Math Teacher will:

• Align teaching to standards and objectives from Grade 6 Pre-Algebra to Grade 8 Algebra 2 concepts as designated by Educational Leadership as well as the Math teacher & coordinator going on leave
• Have an interest in teaching in a bilingual, multicultural environment
• Put in place class management and project organization 
• Incorporate positive discipline strategies and/or restorative practices
• Participate in learning events and interdisciplinary units as applicable
• Impart a personal passion for math concepts and its relevancy
• Rely on knowledge of pedagogical practices to differentiate and for students to learn in mixed age groups
• Use varied assessment models presented by the departing teacher, and according the FASPS Assessment Policy
• Respect Middle School guidelines and deadlines for assessing and reporting
• Communicate with families through a variety of forums
• Leverage technology in the classroom
• Show engagement in collaboration and teamwork
• Ability to do the duties assigned

General FASPS Teacher Job Description:

Position Title: Teacher

Reports to: Division Head

Hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience; benefits are included.

Workload will not exceed 37.5 hours/week including classroom preparation, student supervision and meetings.

POSITION SUMMARY

Teachers are responsible for implementing the mission and philosophy of the school, as well as working in collaboration with their counterparts in the French or English Curriculum.  Working towards harmonization between the English Curriculum and the French Curriculum is a priority.

Teachers are part of an internationally diverse community of teachers and learners with a willingness to adapt to the unique program at FASPS.  They are passionate about working with students, have knowledge of current educational practices and strategies, and are able to use flexible and innovative pedagogical techniques appropriate to a variety of learning styles.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
A valid teaching diploma or other legal credentials required for all teachers.

Employees should keep all relevant certifications current.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is primarily performed in the school environment. The school is dynamic with a high level of activity. Work may also be performed at other sites for field trips.

Must be able to:

• Lift 40 pounds 
• Stand up to 95% of the day 
• Assume postures in low level positions that best allow for physical and visual contact with children 
• Sustain a high level of energy 
• Bend to perform various tasks numerous times throughout the day 
• Stoop, sit on the floor 
• Move from a seated position to a standing position promptly to respond to emergency situations 
• Perform all activities with children (i.e. jump, dance, walk, run, etc.) for extended periods of time 

Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor the environment and children's well-being. 

Depending upon activities and season, may be required to be outdoors for regular, prolonged activities, or fieldtrips and overnight trips.
