The Ethel Walker School seeks a Middle School English/History Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. Applicants should demonstrate success in working with students and parents, and have a commitment to best practices in teaching and learning. This multi-departmental position requires collaboration with colleagues, exhibiting strong communication and problem-solving skills. This teacher will be supervised by the English & History Department Chairs in developing creative and engaging curriculum that centers Middle School girls.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Developing and implementing curriculum in English and History for grades 6-8
Integrate technology meaningfully throughout unit plans
Commitment to Culturally Responsive Teaching and developing equity within the curriculum
Supervise students in study hall, school clubs, advisory, and other school related activities
Facilitate after-school programming and coaching duties
Actively engage in the life of the school community
Participate in personal and professional development
Articulating and modeling the school’s mission and core values
Supporting and following the school’s policies and procedures
Patience, flexibility, and a good sense of humor
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor degree, preferably in subject area or a related field is required; advanced degree preferred
At least 3 years of Middle School teaching experience, ideally in both English and History
Excellent classroom management, communication and organization skills
Commitment to all-girls education
