Sandy Spring Friends School is currently seeking a dynamic educator to work as a long-term substitute teacher in one of our Grade 3 classrooms. Responsibilities include teaching core academic “homeroom-based” classes in math, writing, grammar and reading, as well as social studies instruction to two third grade classes. Additional responsibilities include regular faculty meetings, the supervision of students during campus transitions, recess, and dismissal. This vacancy may lead to a permanent position.
Sandy Spring Friends School seeks to nurture the whole child, and a successful candidate should have the ability to work with elementary age children who represent a broad range of abilities and learning styles.
Qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or closely related field; a master’s degree is desirable. Prior teaching experience in a lower school setting is preferred. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, effective oral and communication skills, and experience working with cooperative and differentiated instruction. Familiarity with Quaker education and the Responsive Classroom approach would be advantageous. Physical Requirements: The ability to navigate stairs as part of daily routines; mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; bending and squatting as required to participate in activities; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to maneuver as necessary within a regular classroom setting.
